So here I am sitting at my dining room table. There is not a sound in the house except the hum of the refrigerator and the click of the keys as I type. The whole house is asleep.
The thing is that it is 10am on Sunday morning.
On a usual Sunday morning we would sitting in church right now after making mad dashes around the house to get the kids and ourselves ready.
Not this Sunday though. This Sunday is a little different. Everyone is a sleep.
The reason for them being a sleep is the week that we had. My daughter decided to have 2 teeth come in while fighting a sore throat. We took turns throughout the week trying to get her to relax and sleep. Last night it was my turn again.
I did it a little different last night though. Instead of getting mad at her and giving her “pow pow”‘s for not going to sleep I prayed, worshiped and laid my hands on her as I prayed for her little throat and new teeth.
Last night was different.
She fell asleep without a fuss within 15 minutes. This is a big contrast to the other nights were it was taking each of us hour to get her to sleep.
This come after a night of talking with my wife about how it seems that we have turned a corner in how we are living our lives. In the last year we have been driven more on God’s principles and priorities more then engaging in the spirit. The reason for this is simple. There were several things that I felt I was “lead by the Spirit” to do but turned out that I was wrong.
Therefore I decided that I need to get some wisdom and God’s principles on our situations and those are what lead us to where we are today. The thing is though that those principles can only take you so far if you do not have the spirit to go along with them. That is where we are now.
So now we are at a stage of walking in wisdom and God’s principles but also engaging in the Spirit too. Thus the difference last knight. Principles would say that my daughter was just being rebellious so she needed discipline. The spirit said she is not at peace and if I can get her to that point she will fall asleep on her own. I guess true wisdom is know when to apply the principle or the spirit or both.
Anyway, back to everyone being asleep. I think that it is not just the last week that is causing everyone to finally relax and get the rest that they need. I think that it is the last 9 months. I think it is the move from Texas, the new area, the new house. Also, I think it is because I prayed last night.
Now that I remember I did pray for everyone in the house last night. As “the man” of the house I really do believe that whatever is going on with you is going to filter down to the rest of your household. Just like Paul said – believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you and your household shall be saved. Whatever the head of the house does that is what everyone else does too.
So anyway, today is a day of rest for my family, not in the sense that most people think, it is a day when God’s Spirit returned to our house because I decided to let Him in.
I hope you are willing to let that same rest in your house.
