Cancer, death, dying, illness are all horrible consequences of sin in the world. For a faithful child of God death is a doorway to an unbelievable eternal existence. Nevertheless, suffering is real and even affected Jesus.

You speak of your friend choosing to go on. I wonder about Enoch being taken by God. Someone remarked that one day Enoch was walking with God and they were closer to heaven than to Enoch's home so he just went on home with God. There is joy when one reaches his reward but so much sorrow behind.

I look forward to place where there is no cancer, death, dying, hurting or suffering. Don't you?

Thanks for your very personal articles.

Kathleen, I am sorry to hear that you are going through this. You are right though, our God is a good God. He is the reason I made it through and am here today. Just keep trusting in Him and He will see you through. God bless.

Hello Dan,
I came across your website and blogs just recently. I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in August of 2009 and am right in the middle of my therapy. I've had surgery, radiation, chemo (which I am half way through right now) and will have more surgery later for a reversal of an ileostomy and also have my thyroid removed which is also cancerous, (totally unrelated to the rectal cancer). All together it will take about a year to get through it all. My husband and I are pastors and I also work full time in a hospital of all things. I'm still working between treatments which is sometimes pretty hard because of the effects of chemo. We've had to put our ministry on hold right now. Our God is a good God and is helping us be overcomers through this. I'm journaling and will eventually put it into a book to help others. Our prayers are with you. Your blogs will bring comfort to many. In Jesus, Kathleen

Thanks Dan. Saw the Gasto-Dr. and for sure I have GERD. The feeling of rocks @ the bottom of the esophagus may suggest erosion. My Endoscopy is Monday morning. I know whatever the finding, God will be glorified through it!

Thank you for your comment.

The thing to remember is that no matter what the doctors says God is willing and able to heal you (and He wants to). Stay close to Him and He will comfort you during this time.

Reading your posts has been insightful and therapeutic. I have not been diagnosed yet. But I have some very scary symptoms. My husband and I are going to see the Gastroenterologist tomorrow. I am a fellow christian and I really appreciate your testimony in the midst of your storm. Becky+

What an inspiring story Dan!
It's always great to see someone giving back. I'm sure you'll touch someone the same way you were touched. Great news about your health too! God Bless.

Let me start by saying thank you for leaving your comment. By doing so you demonstrated the reason why most people do not attend church. Being judgmental in regard to my weakness and/or lack of understand in regard to God and/or the church demonstrates that you are the very thing that you accused me of - being self centered. You are so high and mighty that anyone who does not walk their Christian life in the same manner as you should be condemned.

Sad

See the purpose of this post was to open up about a struggle that I was having. I know I take the risk of people like you coming and tearing me down instead of loving and lifting me up but that is the chance I take. The idea behind this blog and this post is to share with people my experience and struggles so that others out there can see and know that they are not alone.

As you may have noticed this post was written 3 years ago. In the last 3 years I have returned to regular attendance at my church and have become involved. This was only after the healing of my family was complete (because of my neglect of them). I believe that was God's way of doing things because I have seen the fruit of it - good relationships with God, my wife, and my kids. Now I am developing good relationships with those at my church.

I know from your post that you have never been in my situation. You have never seen a Pastor put the church first and have his family walk away from him and God because of it. You have not lost a close friend because of your diehard attitude toward church. I am happy that you have never seen what I have seen and experienced and I pray that you never do.

Be careful though.

The Bible says that whatever a man sows he will also reap. Be careful about quickly judging others because according to God's word you will be judged the same.

I guess it might be a good idea for you to read some scripture and find out a little bit more about THE CHURCH. The church is designed by God for the purpose of building up believers and training them for His purpose and His glory. Take some time to read Ephesians 4. Also, it might behoove you to take note that much of our New Testament was written to CHURCHES! You are trying to sound wise but in reality to are demonstrating that you are pretty self-centered. It is too bad that you cant even honor God by participating in the building up of HIS CHURCH.
