What an inspiring story Dan!
It's always great to see someone giving back. I'm sure you'll touch someone the same way you were touched. Great news about your health too! God Bless.

Let me start by saying thank you for leaving your comment. By doing so you demonstrated the reason why most people do not attend church. Being judgmental in regard to my weakness and/or lack of understand in regard to God and/or the church demonstrates that you are the very thing that you accused me of - being self centered. You are so high and mighty that anyone who does not walk their Christian life in the same manner as you should be condemned.

Sad

See the purpose of this post was to open up about a struggle that I was having. I know I take the risk of people like you coming and tearing me down instead of loving and lifting me up but that is the chance I take. The idea behind this blog and this post is to share with people my experience and struggles so that others out there can see and know that they are not alone.

As you may have noticed this post was written 3 years ago. In the last 3 years I have returned to regular attendance at my church and have become involved. This was only after the healing of my family was complete (because of my neglect of them). I believe that was God's way of doing things because I have seen the fruit of it - good relationships with God, my wife, and my kids. Now I am developing good relationships with those at my church.

I know from your post that you have never been in my situation. You have never seen a Pastor put the church first and have his family walk away from him and God because of it. You have not lost a close friend because of your diehard attitude toward church. I am happy that you have never seen what I have seen and experienced and I pray that you never do.

Be careful though.

The Bible says that whatever a man sows he will also reap. Be careful about quickly judging others because according to God's word you will be judged the same.

I guess it might be a good idea for you to read some scripture and find out a little bit more about THE CHURCH. The church is designed by God for the purpose of building up believers and training them for His purpose and His glory. Take some time to read Ephesians 4. Also, it might behoove you to take note that much of our New Testament was written to CHURCHES! You are trying to sound wise but in reality to are demonstrating that you are pretty self-centered. It is too bad that you cant even honor God by participating in the building up of HIS CHURCH.

Dan, thanks for your honesty. I think it's always tough sharing personal struggles to the masses. I tell my clients to find a small group of people you they can trust. Having a Christian Marriage is tough enough, but could get tougher quickly if too much is shared to too many people. On the contrary, I feel that "not sharing" is even worse. I like your point about "balance." We need to find balance in sharing much with a few people that we know can both love us and remain confidential. I find too often that (men especially) keep so much inside themselves; whereas women seem to share with each other more freely. Thanks again for writing about tough subjects. God bless you and have a great Christmas!

Thanks for stopping by, it is nice to know someone noticed that I had not written in a while.

As mentioned I am ramping up all the way around with my writing so hopefully that means there will be more happening here. The issue that I face with this blog is that it is a little more serious and focused then the rest of my blogs. Usually the things that I write here require more thought and prayer as people come to this blog looking for answers to important questions. I want to make sure that I am leading them God's way when they do end up here.

I do have a couple of topics that have been on the back burner for a while so I will see if I can dig them up and get them posted.

Dan, I was wondering if you were going to come back to this blog again! Glad to hear your spiritual life and your relationship with God are growing. Our pastor just finished a series which has been challenging me to keep moving forward myself, and I've been thinking about how I can move my own spiritual development to the next level.

I can relate to the lack of writing--I went through a period of more than a year where I didn't write in my own spiritual blog either. I'd encourage you to keep coming back to this one once in a while, even if it's just to remind yourself that your relationship with God is important. I pray that you will continue to thrive!

I can understand where you feel that church may not be necessary on a weekly basis if you still have a close relationship with God. However, I don't believe you should prioritize yourself as second behind God. Your spouse and child should come before you as a Christian. Would you not lay down your life for them as Christ did for you if it was necessary? I would also encourage you to seek out a better church, one where you feel good about attending weekly and develop better relationships in Christ. Especially to set a good example for your children.

@ Echo

I see your point about his interpretation and that's what it comes down to. People can see a glass of water and one will say half empty while the other will say half full. Who is wrong? Neither or some would say both. It again comes down to interpretation.

For me personally it comes down to experience and things that I have seen happen in my life that I accredit God for. When it comes down to it a person has to experience God for themselves as opposed to being told they should believe something because they are being told something by someone else.

You need to chill out dude.

First you do not come to someone's site and tell them how to run it. Second, comments are moderated because of spam issues. Third, I did not get the notification that there was a comment here so that is why it is getting approved over a month later. Fourth, if I do not like a comment or think it is inappropriate I reserve the right to delete it if I want.

This is a Christian blog and around here we don't force our opinions on others. Don't try telling me what to do in my own house. Suggestions are always welcome, commands will be ignored and subsequently disobeyed.

You have been warned, take that tone around here again and you will be banned.
