For a faithful child of God death is a doorway to an unbelievable eternal existence. Nevertheless, suffering is real and even affected Jesus. You speak of your friend choosing to go on. I wonder about Enoch being taken by God. Someone remarked that one day Enoch was walking with God and they were closer to heaven than to Enoch's home so he just went on home with God. There is joy when one reaches his reward but so much sorrow behind. I look forward to place where there is no cancer, death, dying, hurting or suffering. Don't you? I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in August of 2009 and am right in the middle of my therapy. I've had surgery, radiation, chemo (which I am half way through right now) and will have more surgery later for a reversal of an ileostomy and also have my thyroid removed which is also cancerous, (totally unrelated to the rectal cancer). All together it will take about a year to get through it all. My husband and I are pastors and I also work full time in a hospital of all things. I'm still working between treatments which is sometimes pretty hard because of the effects of chemo. We've had to put our ministry on hold right now. Our God is a good God and is helping us be overcomers through this. I'm journaling and will eventually put it into a book to help others. Our prayers are with you. Being judgmental in regard to my weakness and/or lack of understand in regard to God and/or the church demonstrates that you are the very thing that you accused me of - being self centered. You are so high and mighty that anyone who does not walk their Christian life in the same manner as you should be condemned. See the purpose of this post was to open up about a struggle that I was having. I know I take the risk of people like you coming and tearing me down instead of loving and lifting me up but that is the chance I take. It is too bad that you cant even honor God by participating in the building up of HIS CHURCH.
